The Cost of Recycling
If sixty million people spend a couple of hours recycling per week, that works out to 120 million recycling hours. If the government paid a minimum wage of six pound per hour for this recycling the cost would be £720 million per week which works out at £37.44 billions a year. Perhaps if we had recycling plants that could do the sorting we could put this £37 billion pounds of labour to better use.
