Like most people my stomach dropped on hearing of Maddie’s disappearance. What a horrific choice her parents had to make, to have no one of consequence looking for Maddie or going to the press and making her too hot to handle. I honestly think a media fest was a bad idea. A criminal who is prepared to take a child has no fear of the law; no regard for anything but their own gains. What do you do with a child too hot to handle? It really is about time there was a way of alerting organisations when children go missing. The unwanted truth is there isn’t. We need eyes everywhere but no fuss. From traffic wardens to taxi drivers, these are the people on the streets who can help but how do you keep certain sections of the media quiet when there is a buck to be made?
